October Notes

October 30, 2024

The rain is supposed to stop tomorrow by noon, which I hope is the worst case scenario. If the dry and 75 degree temps could have stuck around for another day that would be ideal for Halloween. But if it’s still in the 60’s tomorrow night and dry enough it’ll still be a great time. My favorite part about Halloween is that our neighborhood turns into a giant multi-street block party. Streets get shut down to car traffic and everybody is out having a good time. I’m looking forward to being social and getting to take my kids out to load up on candy.

I find it hard to shop for people for birthdays and holidays. As I get older the best gifts I can give and receive is time. If your friends have young kids come over and babysit (plan to stay overnight and book them a hotel if you really want to amaze them). Schedule events to attend with your parents and show up enthusiastically. Trust me, they do not need more things. They just want the time to do the things that all our busy lives crowd out.

The current political atmosphere in the US has gone extremely weird. I do not understand how we as a society have gotten to a point where only the worst of us end up in the highest elected positions of power. This seems to transcend political parties without exception. At the end of the day it means we’re voting for the worst of us to lead.
