I’ve tried to cultivate a “default yes” mindset lately. It’s so easy to say no to things, and often for no reason other than not wanting to change or think. It has its roots in procrastination and an unwillingness to try everything. That isn’t to say it should lead to reckless behavior, but at the very least it results in leaving the house, being social, and working on personal relationships. Somebody invites you to happy hour? Yes. There’s a new play to see at a small theater? Yes. Trivial night? Yes. There’s reason to stay no to these things, because I’ll just end staying home and missing out on existing in a community.
Chicago has an amazing parks system. Right now it’s snowy outside, bitterly cold, and I’m not feeling remotely motivated to put the studded tires on the Warbird, especially since the current wheel set is tubeless. It only costs $40 for unlimited lap swim pass at the Welles Park pool that doesn’t expire until Spring. It’s a pretty amazing deal and gives a full sized 25m pool to swim in.
As fun as winter cycling is, sometimes it’s better to just mindlessly do laps for exercise and not have to deal which all the challenges of ice and snow on the bike.
